Beauty is in the eye of the beholder

An exhibition exploring the concept of ‘beauty’ as seen through the eyes of three Australian artists opens tomorrow at The Australian National University.

The exhibition, Awkward Beauty, is an interdisciplinary collaboration between jewellery artist Helen Britton, Perth garment designer Justine McKnight and Perth photographer Michelle Taylor.

Each artist has created a body of 10 works (jewellery, garments and photography) as a direct response to the work created by the others. The work of all three artists is informed and inspired by the Midland Railway Workshops – a 17 hectare historic railway workshop site on the eastern fringes of Perth where the artists created their pieces.

Justine McKnight and Michelle Taylor will be giving a floor talk today at 1pm at the ANU School of Art Gallery.
